I’m Sheonagh Mearns, specialist speech and language therapist. I qualified as a speech and language therapist in 1998 and have over 19 years experience of working with children aged 0-10 years with a wide range of communication difficulties.
I have worked in the NHS for many years, always with an emphasis on working collaboratively with parents and education colleagues to support children’s speech, language and communication difficulties in the best possible way. I’ve been involved in a number of projects and new initiatives which have focussed on early intervention and support for all children’s communication as well as those with specific difficulties. I have worked extensively with preschool and primary aged students both in specialist settings, mainstream schools and community clinics.
In addition to working in the NHS I have also spent many years as part of I CAN’s Communication Advisor team. This was a great opportunity to help and support children, families and practitioners across the UK.
I am an experienced trainer and regularly deliver training to parents/carers and early years and teaching staff. I am a qualified Signalong Tutor and also a licensed Tutor for I CAN’s Talk Boost programmes.
I am a fully registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, the Health Professions Council and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice.
